(BEIJING, August 14) -- Three of the world's most exciting players, Roger Federer of Switzerland, Rafael Nadal of Spain and Jelena Jankovic of Serbia, lead the charge for a place in the semifinals of the Singles competition at the Olympic Green Tennis Center on Thursday, August 14.

Men's Singles, Quarterfinals

James Blake of the United States has a mountain to climb against top seed Federer who has defeated the American player in all eight of their previous encounters. Federer is bidding for a place in the semifinals of the Olympic Games for a second time.

Paul-Henri Mathieu of France plays Athens 2004 Bronze medallist Fernando Gonzalez of Chile, who has won three of their last four match-ups, while Gael Monfils of France faces No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic of Serbia.

Jurgen Melzer is looking to become the first Austrian to appear in the semifinals of an Olympic Tennis event, but standing in his way is next week's World No. 1 and fellow left-hander Rafael Nadal of Spain.

Women's Singles, Quarterfinals

Four-time Grand Slam semifinalist Jelena Jankovic of Serbia has a revenge match with No. 6 seed Dinara Safina of Russia. The Russian defeated Jankovic in the semifinals of a WTA Tour event in Los Angeles last month, en-route to winning the title.

No. 4 seed Serena Williams of the United States and No. 5 seed Elena Dementieva of Russia meet in the first match on Court 1. After four straight losses to the US player, Sydney 2000 silver medallist Dementieva recorded her first win over Serena Williams in the final of 2007 WTA Tour event in Moscow.

No. 7 seed Venus Williams of the United States has a first-time meeting with Li Na, the only surviving Chinese in the Singles of the Olympic Tennis event.

Men's Doubles, Quarterfinals

Doubles stalwarts Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes of India face No. 4 seeds Roger Federer and Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland on Court 2. Federer is the only player still alive in the Men's Singles and Doubles tournament.

Another Grand Slam champion team in action on Thursday is Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra of France, who will hope to outlast No. 8 seeds Igor Andreev and Nikolay Davydenko of Russia.
