(BEIJING, August 11) -- Kitajima Kosuke of Japan took the gold medal with a world record breaking time of 58.91 in the Men's 100m Breaststroke on Monday. The former record of 59.13 was set by Brendan Hansen of the United States on August 1, 2006. Alexander Dale Oen of Norway took silver in a time of 59.20. Hugues Duboscq of France was third, clocking 59.37.
